My Approach

Therapy is a collaborative journey. It’s a vibrant and active process where we both are required to show up and get curious without an agenda. It will be both uncomfortable and empowering, and there will no doubt be growth if we are willing to explore together. I prefer to be a collaborative ally than the expert, knowing fully that we will learn from each other and I am not an authority in your life. You will be in charge here, and I will meet you where you’re at with care and compassion.

As a helping professional, I believe it is critical to live out my values both professionally and personally, and my commitment to each person I support is to show up authentically, with curiosity, compassion, and a strong ethical foundation. I welcome working with all humans and embrace diversity as an ally for all those who are struggling to find their voice.

I take a compassionate and direct approach to counselling and I work mainly with trauma informed, humanistic, anti-oppressive, and exploratory models. I work deeply with Mindful Somatic Wellness and Somatic Experinceing , Clinical Hypnosis and Internal Family systems which can allow for powerful experiences in navigating the impact of trauma, mental health, and emotional dysregulation while supporting you in developing sustainable repatterning and coping skills while integrating new experiences of sensing.

Clinical Hypnosis Parts Work and Somatics

Hypnosis is a powerful tool that can be utilized, and I know you might be thinking of clucking like a chicken. Think of hypnosis like a vehicle for therapy - it’s not a model, but a tool to help us access those parts of ourselves that stay stuck and we just can’t logic ourselves through. You know the I know I should, but I just can’t seem to, or it;’s great for everyone else, but… Yep, we’ve all been there. Hypnosis can help us develop skills, and make meaning of experiences, and it allows us to process in a way that is unique to you. it draws on metaphors, and invitations to allow your body to enter a deep state of relaxation.

Parts Work, otherwise known as Internal Family Systems helps us explore the multitude of parts that are alive in us. Parts work focuses on moving into Self leadership and allowing our extreme parts to step back from their active roles of micro managing our lives and allowing our Self to lead us. Parts work negotiates, works, with, and befriends all members of ones inner ecosystem as we move to repatterning outdated behaviours.

Somatic work helps us become attuned with our own body and develop skills to repattern old and out dated coping strategies and unwind the trauma that has interrupted our natural ability to process and move through experiences. It allows us befriend our nervous system, our emotions, our sensations and develop skills to manage our our sense of safety. It is a slow process that unfolds uniquely with each person and it a powerful opportunity to explore yourself.

I have found these three skills to be some of the most effective in combination when working with and exploring trauma while actively working to develop new ways of moving through the world and I’d. love to talk more about them with you! If you think you might be interested in these approaches, Please feel free to reach out and ask about them, or book a connection call!

Land Acknowledgment

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, I honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Stoney Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. I acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, I acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who live, work and play on this land, and who honour and celebrate this territory.

This sacred gathering place provides us with an opportunity to engage in and demonstrate leadership on reconciliation. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to join our team on the lands of Treaty 7 territory. I make the commitment to be an ally and an honourable steward of the land as I move forward in reconciliation.
